Article: “Government acts to curb younger smokers” (Pg A1 & A4)

Questions:

What are some measures by the government to curb smoking?
Answer: They put digusting pictures on the ciggrate box. They have places not available for smoking, like playground , shopping areas and carparks.
How successful do you think these measures would be?
Support your answer with reasons.
Answer: It should be quite successful as many of them will thoughts for others.
There are seldom cases of smoking at playground where mostly children there.,

Reflection Question:

How do you feel about MRT commuters eating and drinking blatantly on the train?
Answer: They were inconsiderate. They will drop their wrapper on the chair and dirty the train. They may spill their drinks when the train stops.

Article: “I was an addict” – ‘Straits Times IN’ Section (In The Air Pg 2)

1a) What are some of the earliest signs mentioned in the article to indicate that a person is addicted to gaming?

1b) State some of the methods listed by the author to overcome the addiction to gaming.

2) What are some of your reactions after reading this article? If a close friend of yours confesses to you that he/she is addicted to online games, what would your advice to him/her be?
Answer: I will tell him/she the bad things abt being addicted to online games.
It is up to him if he wants to listen anot.

Article: “Mum’s catching up with me … on Facebook”– ‘Home’ Section (Pg B2)

1) What were the reasons given by Facebook parent, Rashida Husian, when she requests access to the networking sites and also to what her children had put online?

2) Do you think it is a good idea to accept requests by your parents to add them readily to your friends’ list on the Facebook? Why?
Answer: Yes. This can make the relationship between parents & child.
The children can be friends with parents and they can communicated more easiler.

Article: “Sorry guys, these lots are not for you” – ‘Home’ Section (Pg B1)

Question 1:
What were some of the reasons cited in the article why there was a need to have parking lots for women only in these buildings?

Question 2:
(a) In your opinion, do you think it is necessary to allocate parking lots for women only? Why?

Answer : Yes. Cause the carpark are very quiet and seldom people always go there unless they are parking cars or collecting their cars. Some pregnant mothers do drive car. And this may prevert molesting for the teenagers girls if they drives car.


(b) Which group of people do you then feel should be allocated such priority parking? Explain.



Answer : Pregnant mothers, old folks & new driver. Some parking lots have only a little spaces for them to walk after they parked the cars.

Article: “Help for single mums in downturn” – ‘Main’ Section (Pg A4-5)

Question 1:
What project was launched to help single mums? Briefly explain what is this project about?

Question 2:
Imagine you come across a single mum who is unemployed, what are some advice you can give her? Who can she turn to?
Answer : She got go the CC near her house and ask her to tell them that she is in need. The CC person will tell the CDC and CDC will check on her and help her find jobs and provide her monthly cash. She can turn to the government, banks and they will help her.

Week 5

Article: “NTU Death Fall” – ‘HOME’ Section (Pg B6)

Question 1:
What were some indications which showed that the victim was facing problems before he committed the rash act?

Answer : He always stayed in his hostel and did not went out. He was very addicted to his online games. His friends chat with him in Msn, Sms, Call, he didnt reply and pick up. He started to be alone and his good friend asked if he was ok, he said he was alright and told him not to worried.

Question 2:
(a) Is it very stressful being a student in Singapore? Explain.
(b) What are some problems you face as a student which adds to your stress level?

Answer (a) : No. Singapore's education may be hard but there are more hardest in other countries. Singapore's school lesson is much more lesser than others. Example, singapore study only from 7.30-12.30 or 7.30-3pm. But in China, they study for 8-7pm. Which is so much different from us.

Answer (b) : There are many test given and more difficult to understand. Examples topic like, Ss, Geography and chem. SS & Geography is needed to remember alot of things but the problem is that i cant rmb so much. Chem is different from Sec1 & 2 as last time only have 1 science which had chem, phycis, and bio. But now, Chem and phycis are separted.
